Molotow is celebrating the opening of its new home at Reeperbahn 136 today with a big reopening party with live music and much more. After the club had to leave its previous location on Nobistor at the beginning of the year, it has moved to the legendary building over the last three months. Senator for Culture and Media Dr Carsten Brosda will visit the Molotow team in the new premises today at 4pm. Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
The eye-catching building with its half-timbered gable has a long history as a cultural venue: it was home to the Top Ten Club, where the Beatles and the Kinks used to play. The moondoo has been based here since 2008. Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft took over the club premises in the basement and ground floor as a new tenant on 1 January 2025 and leased it to Molotow unter. Kreativgesellschaft has agreed a lease with the landlord until at least 2040, securing this venue for music culture in the long term. In future, the new Molotow will offer concerts and parties on two floors, on the large stage on the ground floor and in the new Top Ten Bar in the basement. It will open with a concert by Slate, the Motorbooty Party and the TV Party.
Dr Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media: "The Molotow is one of Hamburg's most important clubs when it comes to international newcomers and indie gems. Many well-known bands have grown up in and with the Molotow. Today, a new chapter begins for the Molotow in new premises. Driven by great public enthusiasm for the club and thanks to the help of many people involved, Molotow has arrived safely in its new home after a turbulent few months. The fact that we have found a new location in the heart of St Pauli, which also has a legendary musical history, and can use it for cultural purposes in the long term, is a good prerequisite for the Molotow's history to continue to be written at this location. I wish the Molotow and its guests continued great musical discoveries, legendary concerts and many nights of partying."
Ralf Neubauer, head of the Hamburg-Mitte district authority: "The concern about the loss has turned into a real success story: Molotow has found a new home in the centre of St. Pauli. The preservation and further development of our club culture is essential for Hamburg's creative scene. I wish the Molotow many unforgettable nights and a successful new start on the Reeperbahn!"
Egbert Rühl, Managing Director of Hamburg Kreativ Gesellschaft: "I am delighted that we have joined forces to give Molotow a long-term perspective. There could hardly be a more suitable club to continue writing the history of this legendary location on Reeperbahn 136. I wish the Molotow a successful restart and every success for the coming years. Especially in these challenging times for club operators, it is a strong signal that we can secure permanent spaces for the scene at several locations in the city - whether in St. Pauli or Oberhafen. This is very good news for the music scene and for our city of Hamburg."
