Hamburg label support continues into the next round

For the eleventh year now, the Ministry of Culture and Media is supporting the releases of smaller Hamburg music labels.  Since its introduction in 2010, around 300 releases from various genres have been realised through grants and have made an important contribution to the diversity and quality of music culture in Hamburg.  

Dr. Carsten Brosda, Senator for Culture and Media: "The numerous smaller music labels in Hamburg make a significant contribution to the quality of the city of music. In order to strengthen this diversity, we also want to encourage artistic productions that would have little chance of being realized for commercial reasons alone. With the well-established label support, we are strengthening the necessary structures and framework conditions for the labels to realize their music releases. In this way, Hamburg will remain an attractive and lively location for a wide variety of labels that make a significant contribution to the development of the city of culture with artistic productions and innovative business models".

The support is aimed at very small companies from Hamburg that are active here in the form of a music label. The form of support is a subsidy that can amount to between 3,000 and 10,000 euros and requires a minimum of 50 percent of the company's own contribution as share financing. A total of 150,000 euros is available for label promotion. An expert committee made up of representatives of the industry advises the Ministry in deciding on the allocation of funds. For many labels, the support means not only a reliable basis for planning but also that some of the entrepreneurial risk is taken off their hands.
