Dr Hans-Dietrich Reckhaus (born 1966 in Bielefeld) holds a doctorate in business administration and is Managing Partner of Reckhaus GmbH & Co. KG. After studying at the University of St. Gallen, he joined the family business in 1992 and took over as Managing Director in 1995. Originally specialising in insect control, he initiated a radical change in 2012: Together with conceptual artists Frank and Patrik Riklin, he initiated the "Save flies in Deppendorf" campaign, which gave rise to the INSECT-RESPECT seal of approval.
Under his leadership, the biocide manufacturer became a pioneer for biodiversity and sustainable management. Today, Reckhaus products with the INSECT-RESPECT seal are available in large retail chains such as dm, Rossmann, Müller and Aldi - a decisive step towards bringing sustainable insect awareness to the mass market.
He also founded Insectemy, a training programme for landscape gardeners to raise insect awareness, and launched the Day of Insects. He has received numerous awards for his commitment, including the Swiss Ethics Award 2015, the European Responsible Care Award 2018 and the European Green Award 2024.
Dr Reckhaus is the author of several books, including Warum jede Fliege zählt.
