Backstage at the Thalia

A painting room, a carpenter's workshop, a tailor's workshop, a locksmith's workshop: all under one roof? Welcome to the Thalia Theatre. Here we meet Nora Schott, responsible for fundraising and development.

In our podcast Kreativstarter*innen, we take you on a tour of the Hanseatic city's successful creative companies. Today we take you behind the scenes of the Thalia Theatre.

A painting room, a carpentry workshop, a tailor's shop, a metalworking shop: all under one roof? Welcome to the Thalia Theatre. This is where we meet Nora Schott. She does an incredibly important job for the creative industries, namely fundraising and development. For one day, we get to look over her shoulder and move into an area of the theatre that you never get to see from the audience: backstage. In today's episode, you will find out that backstage is not just rehearsals and dressing rooms for actors, but a highly complex infrastructure with countless workshops and services. The creative starter checklist begins at 19:50. Managing Director Tom Till explains how to apply for a job at Thalia and the various positions available there.

About the Thalia Theatre

The main building of the Thalia Theatre is located between the Binnenalster and Mönckebergstraße. The white façade and the six magnificent columns alone make the venerable building stand out from neighbouring department stores and office complexes. However, it is above all the experimental character of the programme and the international orientation of the Thalia that sets it apart from the other three state theatres in Hamburg. The programme combines world premieres, classics and exciting projects by international artists. Numerous awards document its success.
