Pro Exzellenzia is Hamburg’s first cross-university research funding project for women, and aims to significantly and sustainably increase the proportion of women in senior management positions in Hamburg. It is aimed at highly qualified female graduates, PhD candidates and postdocs from the STEM fields, the arts, music and architecture who are seeking leadership roles in academia, business or the cultural sector. To this end, the initiative brings together existing professional development opportunities – including workshops, coaching, mentoring and networking – under one umbrella and supplements them with a 12-month scholarship programme.

Förderkriterien

The relevant bodies at the seven universities are responsible for awarding the scholarships. The scholarship amount is EUR 1,600 per month, plus, where applicable, a child allowance in the form of a monthly lump sum of EUR 155 for the first child, increasing by EUR 50 for each additional child.

Applications are open to female PhD students at state universities in Hamburg (University of Hamburg with UKE, Hamburg University of Technology, HafenCity University, HAW Hamburg (Design/Media), Helmut Schmidt University, University of Fine Arts, University of Music and Theatre) and early-career postdoctoral researchers who identify as ‘female’ from the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), architecture, art and music – and in particular those with a migrant background and/or from non-academic families.
