Frances Uckermann has been head of designxport since July 2020 and is responsible for the strategic concept. Her tasks include establishing the interdisciplinary and internationally oriented center for all design related topics and activities in Hamburg - as a network, as incubator for new ideas, as venue for debates and concrete projects.
Frances Uckermann studied fine arts and visual communication in Kassel. Until 2019 she was the creative director and responsible for the visual brand management of the weekly magazine STERN. She developed numerous magazines, designed books and worked as art director for publications as diverse as ZEIT WISSEN, MAX, ALLEGRA, SPIEGEL REPORTER. Since 2010 she has been giving lectures and workshops at various design and journalism academies as well as at events such as the ADC Festival and the Forward Festival.
